In June, the Paradigm official website published an article titled "Intent-Based Architectures and Their Risks," which introduced the concept of Intent to the public for the first time. Related intent protocols and infrastructure quickly developed, becoming a hot topic in the crypto world at the ETHCC conference in July.
Intent is not a new concept. As Mindao, the founder of DForce, said: The crypto space has been pushing the limits of abstraction and automation, from aggregators, centralized exchanges, contract wallets to cross-chain DeFi, all working on these tasks, as well as Chainlink and the recent automation middleware, along with Telegram bots.
Intent has brought new changes. In the past, the focus was on product interaction, while in the AGI era, the focus is on human-computer interaction. AI/LLM contains tremendous potential for enhancing encrypted interactions.
01, Top-Down Anoma and Bottom-Up Unibot
In the past six months, agreements, projects, and infrastructure related to intent have gradually gained popularity. Here, two typical cases are selected for analysis.
The most notable project related to intent is the Anoma Foundation. In the context of severe homogenization in Layer 1, Anoma has completed three rounds of financing totaling $57.8 million with its intent-centered architecture Anoma and the privacy Layer 1 Namada, ranking 7th in financing amounts for non-token Layer 1/Layer 2.
Recalling Anoma's speech at EthCC, founder Adrian Brink pointed out the uniqueness of Anoma: all interactions begin with intent. After users express their intent, the Anoma black box architecture processes it, realizing the core transaction process based on intent interaction:
The Anoma team has identified the pain points at the underlying layer of blockchain protocols, reviewing the architectural limitations from Bitcoin's scriptable settlement to Ethereum's programmable settlement, which leads existing application protocols to require at least one Web2 component, making it impossible to achieve counterparty discovery and resolution. They believe that the intention-centric Anoma architecture represents the third generation of Dapp architecture in the evolution of blockchain protocols, allowing users to define the desired outcome state and achieve efficient and customizable privacy transactions at the level of intent.
Although Anoma, with its high financing and new technological architecture, is developing slowly, it has formed a complete innovative ecosystem:
On the other hand, the TG Bot has opened up the imagination for the implementation of Intent segmentation scenarios with on-chain automated trading tools.
Unibot is a Telegram-based trading bot that allows users to conduct automated DEX trading through Telegram, offering features such as sniper buys, copy trading, DEX limit orders, privacy, and anti-MEV measures. Unibot replaces the cumbersome interactions of Uniswap based on Intent, providing a convenient DeFi experience. Unibot has also spawned a batch of TG Bot clones, with the current total market value of the TG Bot sector approaching $200 million.
Anoma, which is top-down, is innovation, while TG Bot, which is bottom-up, is transformation. Anoma starts from an intent-based underlying architecture, but the team's progress is slow; TG Bot provides users with a brand new on-chain interactive interface, but it is not intelligent enough and has security risks.
Both aim to simplify the user interaction experience by introducing a new programmable and customizable user interaction interface - User Intent Layer (, allowing users to bypass complex on-chain interactions and define transaction status based on intent.

02, AI is the new UI: Command Interaction vs Intent Interaction
The AI paradigm is introducing the third user interface paradigm in the history of computers, shifting towards a new interaction mechanism where users tell the computer what they want, rather than how to do it.
Every revolution in interactive models throughout history has produced entirely new business models. LLM-based generative AI brings disruptive changes to human-computer interaction, directly transforming interactions with various software UIs into conversations with the Chatgpt chat window, which is an unprecedented experience. LLM + crypto introduces a new proposition of intent-based interaction to the crypto world, and LLM has the potential to make blockchain interactions smarter by discovering and describing user intents.

03. The Evolution of Intent Concept, Interaction Paradigms, Current Status, Trends
Intent is not a new concept; it has existed since the Web2 era. With the rise of search engines like Google, users can input their intent, and the search engine provides relevant results to satisfy that intent.
The rise of e-commerce platforms such as Amazon and eBay has led to a significant shift in intention-based architecture. Users can express their intent to purchase products, while the platform takes care of logistics. In 2017, Gartner introduced the concept of Intent-based Networking, presenting users with an interface where they only need to express what they want, and the platform will handle the business details.
Intent-based networking is the trend of automation and intelligence in the Web2 era. Andrew Lerner, Vice President of Research at Gartner, pointed out in 2017 that this will be the next milestone in the field of networking.
In the evolution from Web2 to Web3, the concept of intent in Web3 is not clear, but there are some common understandings:
Paradigm Definition: Intent is a set of declarative constraints that allows users to delegate the creation of transactions to a specialized network of third-party participants while retaining full control over the process.
Anoma Definition: Intent is a message sent by the user to express custom preferences, defining constraints on what the system can do, rather than a specific execution path.
Propellerheads Definition: The intention is the part of the transaction that requires assistance from others, simplifying complex transactions by outsourcing the difficult parts to a third party.
In practical applications of Web3-based intent transactions, users create intents off-chain, outsource them to a resolver off-chain, encapsulating the complexity of blockchain interactions while retaining complete control of the process on-chain, thereby lowering the threshold for on-chain interactions.
The intention is to introduce the LLM architecture concept - a user intent-centric architecture. The current relevant crypto protocols and infrastructure are embedded in the interaction layer between users and Crypto, leveraging LLM to provide a better on-chain interaction experience.
LLM+Crypto brings a new paradigm of human-computer interaction, allowing users' intentions to be directly converted into smart contract calls. Users only need to express their intentions as they would with Siri, while a robot/AI Agent/third-party parser assists in completing complex on-chain operations. In the future, intent-based Web3 interaction will be intelligent, with the potential to significantly reduce the complexity of user on-chain interactions.
More and more Web3 projects are currently exploring the power of intent. Whether it is intent-based Dapps or intent-based underlying architectures, they all unleash the potential of intent from different perspectives. We attempt to organize this rapidly evolving field and categorize it into four major categories from an interaction perspective, tracking the latest status and trends:
Infrastructure ) intent-centric intent architecture layer (:
Supporting infrastructure ) related to intent and related to account abstract wallet supporting infrastructure (:
Enterprise applications ) integration of Dapp's intent infrastructure, API, modular intent layer, specific domain parser (:
The intelligent interface for consumer applications ) user interaction includes wallets, DEX, Web3 AI Agents, and smart search engines (:

Intent-based architecture, supporting facilities, and enterprise applications attempt to address underlying challenges, but infrastructure cannot be built overnight. The trends in consumer application layers are even more exciting, as the evolution of interaction entry points like wallets and DEX shows the potential for intelligent interactions.
Wallet Intelligence: ERC-4337 introduces a new user intent layer )UserOps(, where users express intents, and then the bundler converts these intents into executable signed transactions. In recent months, the number of ERC4337 users has significantly increased, with ZeroDev, Biconomy, and Safe modular smart accounts being the most motivated to drive AA+ intent, which has the potential to foster wallet intelligence in the future )SCW(.

DEX Architecture Transformation: Intent Based Trading ) is aimed at improving capital efficiency and user interaction experience. CoW Hooks link complex actions such as trading, bridging, staking, deposits, etc., while UniswapX allows users to sign intent for off-chain matching and on-chain settlement. Similar intent-based DEXs like BananaHq, Brink, and basedmarkets are gradually increasing, and a new intent-based RFQ narrative ( SYMMIO ) is unfolding. As more DEXs and aggregators shift towards intent-based architecture, the DEX landscape is undergoing significant changes.
Intelligent Interaction Entry: Similar to the transformation of Web3 front-end interaction interfaces by TG Bots, the interaction entry focuses on understanding user intentions and systematically converting them into automated, actionable tasks. It is not only TG Bot-like trading robots; Web3 AI Agents and Web3 intelligent search engines are also making Web3 interactions smarter.
04. Challenges and Prospects of Intelligent Interaction in Web3
The interaction experience of Web3 products in the past hindered large-scale adoption, and the wealth effect on the chain concealed many product issues. Now liquidity and user attention are scattered, and on-chain liquidity is scarce.
At the July ETHCC conference, developers discussed the future of intent-centric approaches extensively, focusing on how to help users interact with DApps more intelligently in Web3. However, there are still many challenges to implementing intent-centric applications.
